How To Create an Avatar Image

Avatars are those small photos that everyone likes to place beneath their name on forum postings. They generally range from photos of your motorhome, pets, family, or almost anything else that helps you personalize your forum browsing experience. The problem is that avatars are small images whereas any digital image that you have taken with a camera that now resides on your computer is too large. Therefore they need to be resized in order to fit into the allotted space. Now, if you are familiar with using Photoshop or some other image editing program that's not a problem. You just resize and/or crop the image to fit the allotted space and then upload it via your User Control Panel (UCP). Details on how to upload avatars is found in the Avatar and Signature Help tutorial.

However, not all of us have the ability to resize images. Each avatar needs to be no more than 140 pixels wide and 140 pixels high. They can be smaller but the real key is to make them 140 pixels wide so that they can easily be seen at the maximum width allowed. To do this we are including a utility that will take any digital image that is on your computer, upload it to our server, resize it to a 140 pixel wide image, and allow you to save it to your computer so that you can upload it as your avatar image. Any digital image in the JPG, GIF, BMP, or PNG formats can be processed using this utility. The end result will be a JPG file capable as being used as your avatar. Your original file will remain unchanged. We hope that our members will find this a helpful utility to allow them to create personalized avatars.
